World War II contribution
Birthed in the 1940s, the earliest model of the brand helped transport hundreds of Allied soldiers worldwide. It became a hero with its reliable 4×4 technology. This was the decade when Willys-Overland, the original manufacturer of the brand, developed the 1,200-pound 3-passenger vehicle with an 80-inch wheelbase. This was the military model, the specs of which were created by government officials. Much later, in 1945, the first civilian model, CJ-2A, was launched; it had the historic 7-slot grille that has become a brand trademark ever since.
Persisted under different manufacturers
Jeep survived under the ownership of multiple manufacturers over the years. From Willys-Overland in the 1940s to Kaiser Motors in the 1950s, the brand was also passed on to American Motors Corporation (or AMC) in 1970. In 1987, Chrysler took over all the AMC brands, and in 1998, Daimler Chrysler entered the picture. In 2009, when Chrysler joined hands with the Fiat Group, the brand moved under the parentage of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. Finally, in 2021, Stellantis took over as the custodian of the brand.
